Captain, Jesse D’Arcy-Slade, won the toss and the Flames elected to bowl, hoping to make the most of the windy conditions. St Albans batted well, putting up a decent total of 174/3. India Buchanan was the pick of the bowlers, with 1 for 20 – including a maiden! She and Jesse combined to lure St Albans’ top batter into a good catch at mid-off.
The Flames struggled to gain momentum in their turn to bat, eventually making 78/8 (effectively all out, with one player retired hurt). Grace Darnbrough persevered well, facing 39 balls for her 5 runs, while Jesse top-scored with a well-compiled 32. Jesse was rewarded with Player of the Match for her all-round performance. St Albans spread the wickets around, with Biena Hickford the pick of the bowlers with 2 wickets from 9 balls. St Albans deserved the win; our girls deserved a medal and a cup of soup for persevering in the freezing conditions. 🥶🥶🥶
