Captain, Xenia Prinz, lost the toss and our girls were asked to field.
OBC got off to the worst of starts, losing their first wicket – via a brilliant run out – with no runs on the board, in the first over.
The NWWCC Flames performed very well, with some tight bowling and good fielding; wickets fell at regular intervals. In the end OBC were all out for 92 at the end of 15 overs.
There were some great bowling achievements in the field, with Mookie Lee getting 1 for 7 off 1 over; Jesse D’arcy-Slade getting 2 for 16 off 2 overs; and Grace Darnbrough getting 2 for 20 off 3 overs; along with two very well taken run outs.
The NWWCC Flames turn at bat was a master-class in how to pace an innings, with our girls getting to the target for the loss of only one wicket, inside 19 overs. Summer Karras carried her bat through the innings and top-scored with 22 runs (including two lovely fours), ably assisted by Lucy Dawson with 17 not out, and Jesse D’arcy-Slade with a quickfire 14. Jesse was nicely caught & bowled by Pippa Ussher, for OBC’s only wicket.
So, an impressive first win for the NWWC Flames, with Summer being named Player of the Day for her sterling innings anchoring the run chase.
