Captain, Millie Camm-Rule, won the toss and asked Sydenham to bat, on a beautiful sunny morning, that was already starting to warm up. The Flames got off to a rollicking start, having Sydenham 4 down for 35 runs in the 6th over. Amazingly, India Buchanan was involved in all 4 dismissals, taking 3 solid catches at short mid-on, and clean-bowling the 4th!
The opposition then put together a solid 74-run partnership, before they finished their 30 overs with 165/6. The wickets were shared around the team, with Lexi Parkyn getting her first ever wicket (clean bowled) and Summer Karras 2/19 from 5. The Flames started the chase in fine fashion, with 14 runs from the 1st over, and kept up the pace right through the innings. Summer scored a quick-fire 41 off 34 balls (for a Strike Rate of 120%), including 7 fours, while Jess D’arcy-Slade scored a composed 12 at the top of the innings.
Meanwhile, Mille played a real captain’s knock, scoring 25 from 57, and holding the innings together through out the middle stages. It turned out to be a Player of the Day display, as the Flames only came up short by 33 runs, when they were all out for 132 in the 23rd over. A good, close game, played in summery conditions, that was enjoyed by all.
