NWWC Blazers vs NWWC Scorchers Saturday 3rd December

The Local Derby T30

The Blazers strength this season so far has been our bowling, so it came as no surprise that we elected to bowl after winning the toss.

After the loss of a couple of early wickets Kelly Hodder (41) and Eddie Maslin (37) combined in a good partnership of 46 runs, then a partnership between Kelly and Lucy Dawson (7) of 41 runs helped steer the Scorchers through to a score of 117 all out. For the Blazers Meg Moffat picked up both openers taking 2-21, Ava O’Hara removed Kelly Hodder while Kayla Pringle (twice on a hat trick ball) ripped through the middle order taking 4-9 from 3 overs.  Izzy Brooks proved very hard to hit, with an economical 7 from 3 overs. Scarlett Amos then bought herself back into the attack to claim the last wicket.

Blazers then went into bat chasing 118 for the win. We opened with Paige Robertson (7) and Meg (49) with both openers seeing off the opening bowlers and had put on a partnership of 30 before Paige was dismissed. This bought Izzy Brooks (21) to the crease, and they added another 28 before Izzy forgot to hit one. Meg had to leave for work and should have come off sooner, but we gave her a chance to get to fifty before she left. Unfortunately, this was not to be, and Meg was bowled on 49. With the score now on 101/3 she had well and truly done her job. Scarlett Amos (22n.o) and Rebecca Stanley (6n.o) saw us through to the end where we finished up on 118/3 in 29 overs.

Best bowler for the Scorchers was India Buchanan 2-9 from 5 overs including a maiden.  Thanks to Millie Cam-Rule, Lucy Dawson and Maria Surrey for their Div 1 debut.
