NWWC Under 16 Flames – Saturday 10th December

Captain, India Buchanan, lost the toss and our girls were asked to bat by OBC, in bucolic conditions at Burnside Park.  We lost an early wicket, but some solid batting from India and Luce Dawson steadied the ship.  The innings see-sawed a little in the middle stages, with OBC picking up five wickets for 20 runs.  However, a superb partnership of 51 runs between Millie Camm-Rule (21) and Grace Darnbrough (17 N.O.) ensured the Flames ended up with a respectable 116/8 from 24 overs.

OBC, too, lost an early wicket, thanks to a brilliant side-on runout from Lily Weeds!  Wickets were shared around for the next few overs, with Grace picking up a nice Caught & Bowled, Liesl Whitaker clean bowling someone, and India taking a catch off Millie’s bowling, plus bowling one herself.  The OBC pair of Heidi & Pippa then settled in, putting together a 63-run partnership that featured some big hitting from both players.  Or girls toiled away in the hot conditions, picking up the 6th wicket with another superb runout from Lily Weeds, ensuring the game went down to the wire.  In the end, OBC got to 117 in the 19th over, with two wickets to spare.

Player of the Day was India, in recognition of her all-round performance with the bat & ball.
