NWWC U16 Flames Saturday 11th February

It was the original Game of Two Halves for the Flames today; one innings was definitely a bit better than the other!  Captain for the day, India Buchanan, lost the toss and our girls were asked to field by OBC.  Makayla Capon struck early, with Jesse D’Arcy Slade taking a brilliant catch off Makayla’s second ball, before Makayla clean-bowled the other opener in her second over.  Jess then picked up some wickets of her own, with a ball skied to wicketkeeper, Grace Darnbrough, from her first over, before effecting a runout by herself to have the opposition 91/4 in the 14th over.

OBC’s Alexis then made a very nice 51 (retired) and some solid batting from the rest of the team allowed them to get through to 217/5 from their 30 overs.  The second innings was a little less respectable, with five out of eight batters scoring a duck!  Unfortunately two of them were run out without facing a ball, due to a combination of great fielding from OBC and extraordinarily bad luck for our girls.  Of those who made runs, India scored 11, Grace made 3, and Ariana hung around for a long time to make a very well-compiled 4 in just her second ever game.

By far the highlight of the innings though was Jesse, who batted superbly before falling just 1 short of what would have been her maiden half century.  With five 4s and numerous 2s, Jess put the ball to all parts of the field, well & truly earning her Player of the Day award.  The Flames ended up all out for 103, so OBC got the win.
