NWWC U16 Flames – Saturday 18th February

Captain for the Day, Jesse D’Arcy-Slade, won the toss and the girls asked Sydenham to bat.  That turned out to be a great decision, as Mookee Lee clean bowled one of their openers in her first over, then had another batter well caught (by Jesse) in her second!  Lily McGonigal then clean bowled Sydenham’s other opener and suddenly they were 45/3 in the 7th over.

Sydenham then put together a 50 run partnership, before Xenia Prinz clean bowled Ruby T, and Jesse caught & bowled the top-scoring Bienna.  Lucy Dawson then took off her wicket-keeping gear and proceeded to take two wickets in one over!  One was clean bowled and the other caught by none other than Jesse.

Lily M cleaned up the tail with a well-judged LBW, and Sydenham finished all out for 125.  Our girls started solidly, with Millie Camm-Rule and Xenia putting on 20 runs in the opening stanza.  Unfortunately, Sydenham just kept picking up regular wickets after that and the Flames were extinguished for 83.

There were a number of decent innings from Xenia (12), Millie (11), and Luce (11), while Jesse scored a well-judged 14, including a couple of lovely 4s.  Together with her three catches – one off her own bowling – this top-scoring innings earned Jesse the Player of the Day.
