NWWC Scorchers vs NWWC Blazers Saturday 4th March

The NWWC Div 1 Blazers and Scorchers met for just the 2nd time this season for a T20 – on Burnside #3 – a ground change which was really appreciated.

Blazers Captain Meg Moffat won the toss and elected to field. The Scorchers innings was made up of a number of good partnerships, Kelly Hodder / Edie Maslin – 24, Kelly / Olivia Paul – 46, and Oliva / Lola Holbrough – 22.

A good catch by Meg off the bowling of Livvy Crowe took the wicket of Edie who was looking dangerous.  Good fielding by Ava-Grace O’Hara, resulted in running Kelly out, and an effective change in bowling by Meg resulted in Paige Robertson taking the wicket of Olivia. Lola batted the rest of the innings with Jesse D’Arcy-Slade and Luce Dawson, taking the score to 107/4.  The Blazers had the first reasonable total to chase for some time.

Kayla Pringle and Rebecca Stanley opened the batting, surviving the opening bowling of Lola and Edie, loosing their first wicket in the 5th over to Kelly.  Rebecca and Meg had a very good partnership of 58 runs, taking advantage of any loose balls and not giving many chances.  Confusion resulted in the running out of Meg by Millie Cam-Rule/assist Luce with the total 84 with 4 overs to go.  Rebecca kept the score ticking over taking it close – 2 runs were needed off the last 3 balls but was not possible with 2 dots and a wicket ending a game that either team could have taken, plus could have easily been a draw, 106/5.

Thanks to the U16s, that played: India Buchanan & Summer for Blazers and Millie, Luce, Xenia Prinz and Jesse who played for the Scorchers – especially those that played 2 games & a couple that were called up at short notice due to illness in the Scorchers team.

Rebecca Stanley 57* off 60 balls.

Meg Moffat 23 off 28 balls 1/10 off 4 overs.

Kelly Hodder 21 off 26 balls.

Edie Maslin 19 off 13 balls Lola Holbrough 15* off 15 balls, 0/7 off 3 overs.
