Another beautiful sunny morning greeted us on Saturday, albeit with a very heavy dew covering the grass. Captain for the Day, Luce Dawson, lost the toss (our usual start!) and Sydenham sent us into bat. The Flames started the innings well, with Millie Camm-Rule (14) and Grace Darnbrough (12) putting on an opening partnership of 58. From there, a combination of good bowling and some great catching saw Sydenham hold our girls to a total of 111. However, we did manage to last until the end of the 29th over; Luce, Liesl Whitaker, and Lily Weeds all occupying the crease for a decent amount of time.
In reply, Sydenham paced their run-chase perfectly, with the loss of only one wicket – Phoebe D’Arcy-Slade clean-bowling one of Sydenham’s openers, Zoe, for 16, with the score at 109. Sydenham’s other opener, Ruby, carried her bat, scoring 35 N.O., leading them to victory in the 17th over. With only two games left in the season, the NWWCC Flames are still in third place on the table.
