The club would like to thank Ross Hastings for his tireless work in establishing and being the first chair and convener of North-West Women’s Cricket, it took a lot of vision, patience and trust to establish NWWC and a terrific milestone when we were able to enter a side the Premier Women’s competition.
Looking back to 2016/2017 it was really down to the foresight of Ross, Mike Dunlop, Angus McIntosh and a few others (you know who are) who were determined not to make the same mistakes of the past and to keep the girls playing in the correct age and format and also to keep them together, effectively to grow female player numbers. That first season saw the two teams formed and play as part of North West Youth Cricket with introduction of the Green shirts followed with some Red Shirt rivalry.

As a life member of Merivale-Papanui Cricket Club, Ross has done everything in that club from Senior A player, committee member, President you name it! This experience was called upon as the first convener North-West Women’s Cricket which really help to negotiate the pathway and hurdles during the establishment of the collaboration including discussions with other clubs, Christchurch Metro Cricket and other stakeholders.
It was always my wish to support female cricket players and supporters to administer their cricket and see more females involved in this aspect of the game too. I’m pleased that a few of the players have experienced this and some have been able to continue contributing in this way
Ross Hastings, August 2023

We can’t forget the support from Tracey Hastings during all of this either – thanks Tracey! Ross isn’t leaving cricket anytime soon, and is keen to continue ongoing support of NWWC, watching Kate Hastings take up the bat again this season, and will be back playing himself in social cricket. Ross will be available on call for any help and guidance which I am sure will be needed.
