A tough start for the NWWC Div 2 Flames side vs OBC at Walter Park
Conditions were great to begin with and the most pressing thing upon arrival to the ground as a spectator was to find a spot not facing the sun. How much and how quickly things changed shortly afterwards!
NWWC won the toss and sent OBC into bat. Some wonderful strike hitting by OBC, particularly through the leg side saw them get to a total of 162/4 of their 25 overs. Wickets for Claudia, Nicole and Michaela. For their first game this season, the girls’ bowling was generally pretty tidy, with few extras but the occasional ball down leg side was put away to the boundary.
Within the first hour of play, the wind had arrived, and both spectators and players were chasing hats, pieces of paper and bags across the ground.
In reply, NWWC could not match the hitting of OBC and with wickets falling regularly throughout the innings, could only manage 84/9. Michaela showed some strong hitting in her 13 – the top runs scorer for NWWC. Some of the girls had their first go at umpiring too.
As the phones blared with the civil defence emergency, the boundary cones were being redistributed, wickets being tipped over and hats were still being chased, the girls persisted in completing the second innings and kept having fun throughout.
Well done to Eden for her player of the day with her tidy bowling and holding one end up batting while the wickets fell around her.
