NWWC Blazers vs Sydenham/Selwyn Wahine Saturday 10th February

Sydenham won the toss and elected to field first a decision that they may have ended up regretting. After losing a couple of wickets to the slow bowling of Greer Hill in the second over we had a couple of small partnerships before we found ourselves 4/99. At 15 overs and drinks we were 4/106. With Scarlett Amos and Rebecca Stanley at the crease. Given instructions to bat until the 25th over they did that in great style. As the opposition slowly wilted in the heat the girls went about building a massive partnership. At the end of the innings, we had amassed 4/263 from our 30 overs, Scarlett Amos was 133n.o and Rebecca Stanley was 56n.o. A massive unbroken partnership of 159.

Going into field we thought that we had enough runs in the bank and our focus was to ensure our energy levels remained high. Mikayla Nortman picked up an early wicket as did Paige Robertson which had the opposition on the back foot.

Although there were a couple of small partnerships during their innings and some rear-guard resistance shown Sydenham limped their way to being all out just as the first drops of rain were felt for 107.

Meg Moffatt bowled a hostile spell and ended up with figures of 15/3. Special note to Kayla Pringle who played her last game with the Blazers and starts new adventures as she heads off to Otago University to study.
