Last Saturday at Burnside #1 saw NW Women’s Cricket and Lancaster Park CC battle for points in the penultimate round to the EV Power 40 over competition.
The EV Power 40 over competition is to provide and opportunity for Div 1 players to play club cricket during the Super Smash competition when the Magicians are unavailable. For this match however all of The Magicians who were fit had made themselves available for both sides.
LPCC won the toss and elected to bat first on a green track after two weeks of rain, perhaps wanting to make the most of the hard rolled pitch, or backing their bowling to put us under pressure. Some excellent bowling and catches saw wickets fall early with Libby Stead 3/28 from 8, Michaela Yoon 2/45 off 8, Gail Hotton 2/32 of 8 all benefiting from some sharp work in the field saw LPCC falling to 48/5 and North-West feeling on top of the match.
Magicians’ players Kate Anderson & Laura Hughes 35* (batting at 9) had other ideas with a partnership of 62 runs for the 8th wicket and Kate compiling a wondering opening innings with controlled shots and rotating the strike to be caught out for 99 of 103 balls. Deserving of 100. LPCC 208/8 off their 40 overs
North-West turn to bat and the opening pair of Kate Irwin 6 and Eloise Borcoski got off to a good start before Kate was bowled by Chloe Graham, bring Izzy Sharp to the crease whose better than run a ball 30 was cut short bowled by Stella Stewart. At 61/2 there was plenty of work to be completed when Jodie Dean joined Eloise at the crease. Jodie’s excellent timing was on display as well as some clean hitting though she did provide some opportunities along the way.
It was Jodie’s day as she pushed on to 82* in a partnership of 119 runs with Eloise who was out for 60. The hard work was done and it was a 7 wicket win with 8.5 overs to go and leaving North West at the top of the ladder with one round to go.
