On the last match of the season, the 50 over final, Gail was presented her 50th game cap by her father Glenn Hotton
Abigail Hotton joined the club for the 206/17 season as a right-hand batter and right-arm off-spin bowler.
Key Moments and Milestones
- Club Debut & Early Selection: Gail joined the newly created NWYC side in 2016/2017 before the start of North West Women’s Cricket in Sep 2018. She played her junior cricket for Weedon’s junior cricket club By the 2018/19 season, she was selected for the “Black” team in the Junior Magicians tournament (Year 9 & 10) and the Future Magicians tournament.
- Inaugural Premier Team: In Oct 2020, she was a member of the first-ever NWWC Premier Women’s team for their inaugural match against St Albans.
- Captaincy: She served as the Captain of the NWWC Premier Women’s team during the 2022/23 season.
- National Representation: In late 2022, she was selected alongside Izzy Sharp for the first-ever New Zealand Under-19 T20 World Cup squad that competed in South Africa in Jan 2023.
- Professional Debut: She made her debut for the Canterbury Magicians during the 2022/23 season.
- Major Awards:
- 2021/22: Premier Player’s Player.
- 2024/25: Premier Coach’s Award.
- Performance Highlight: In the 2025/26 EV Power Premier Women’s competition, she was among the top wicket-takers with 16 wickets.
