Indoor Cricket Quiz Success

Four players from North West Women’s Cricket have been selected to represent New Zealand at age group level in the 2026 Indoor Cricket Junior Series that is hosted in Pretoria, South Africa. In addition to the players Darrin Stackhouse will be going as coach and Vanessa Robertson as a boys team manager.

The quiz was a sell out and very well supported from the Indoor Cricket community who came out to support Sophie Davis, Michaela Yoon, Lee-Ann Martin and Lexie Boon who had put in a lot of work in organising the event (with plenty of parent help), sell raffle tickets, checking the answers and updating the scores to make the night run smoothly.

All the girls spoke to the audience and were extremely grateful for the support and encouragement they had received. They did an excellent job and we can feel very proud of them representing our community.

It was terrific to see Murray Hawes there, as Murray got the girls playing indoor cricket from a young age at Action Indoor Sports Hornby in a team he coached and managed on a Friday night, even recruiting enough for two teams! See if you can spot a young Lee-Ann in one of the photos below.

Darrin Hickson’s table were favourites and he had a terrific table of Warriors supporters which included international legend Lea Tahuhu who was also invited to say a few words of congratulations to all players while explaining that her representative journey started with Indoor Cricket and how it made her feel to represent NZ for the first time. Their team went on to win the quiz by 2 points.

The raffle table was stacked with donated prizes, enabling over 30 raffle draws and the quiz was well MC’d by Darron Stackhouse. Sausage sizzle and bacon sandwiches were on offer – thanks to the parents on the BBQ – so with the raffle sales, sausage sizzle and entry fees over $3500.00 was raised on the night.

Good luck in South Africa!
