A new cricket-related research publication arising from three years of data collection involving youth female cricketers participating in New Zealand’s National Secondary Schools Cricket Tournament.
This research is an output of a long-term collaboration between New Zealand Cricket, the six Regional Cricket Associations, and the research team at the University of Canterbury faculty of Health, including Dr Sibi Walter and Dr Greg King who recently graduated his PhD.
U19 female cricketers demonstrate role-specific physical profiles driven primarily by strength, power, and speed rather than anthropometry or maturity status. The absence of a clear relative age effect and limited applicability of biological maturity highlight the need for performance-based, position-specific approaches to training and talent identification in female cricket
